My Design Journey
Hello! I’m Cher Oberlander, an Interior Designer with over 10 years of experience transforming spaces into functional and beautiful environments.
The Early Spark of Passion
My story begins with my childhood, a time when my love for design blossomed naturally. From a young age, I was captivated by the idea of transforming spaces, starting with my own bedroom. My curiosity wasn’t just about making things look pretty; it was about creating a space where I felt at home, inspired, and comfortable. My mom played a key role, supporting my creative ambitions and taking me on thrifting adventures to find unique pieces that helped bring my vision to life. This early experience instilled in me the belief that our physical surroundings have a profound impact on our life experiences.
Pursuing Design Professionally
Fast forward to my adult years, where I initially pursued a career in banking, but my creative passion never left me. Recognizing that my creative nature was stifled, and realizing that my true calling was interior design, my husband encouraged me to take the leap and apply to Mount Royal University’s prestigious Interior Design program in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This moment marked the start of my professional transformation. I started a career that fuelled my passion and where I could immerse myself in the world of design
My Professional Journey
After my formal training, I dove headfirst into furniture design at two distinguished commercial furniture dealerships and then finally commercial, institutional and multi-unit residential design at two of the most reputable and impactful Architectural firms in my city. What I bring to the table isn’t just technical expertise, it is that childhood spark that continues to drive me. Over the years, I’ve honed my skills, developed my own design style, and learned how to turn visions into reality. I have became known for my creative design skills and my ability to create spaces that were not only beautiful but functional. Each project is an opportunity to push boundaries and elevate design, always with a focus on ensuring the design serves its users and reflects the people who inhabit it.
Family at the Heart of it All
At the heart of everything I do is a deep love for family and a belief that design should support the lives we live. My personal experiences as a mother and wife influence the way I approach design. I understand how important it is for a space to be functional, beautiful, and reflective of the people within it. I believe that great design can enhance relationships, foster connection, and ultimately improve quality of life.
